Message hmmmmm...... how to choose? I can only keep one.

My profile describes my TT converted convertible--which I drive daily, and take on long trips,. Now I also own a salvage title, but very fixable slicktop.

Even though I've got my gripes with Wiseco and their boring advice, I am happy with the power and response of my TT setup, and am trying to decide if I want to keep it in the vert, or transfer my work to the slicktop.

I am weighing the pros and cons of:

Top-Down is very cool to have, and in California, useful about 85-90% of the time. It's like therapy without the "ah well, we are out of time". Even winter days are suitable for top-down.

Top Down on the highway in traffic can be noisy and too much exposure to it could damage your ears (I use ear plugs for long or non-recreational drives).

This convertible, at least, will never be as solid and stable as a coupe. One of the things I was looking for in a used Z in general, was a solid chassis and a smooth ride with the touring setting, that would insulate me from the road. The vert picks up alot of minor road problems and amplifies them. I mean, 20 mph down a simple road and it's bumpy. Not so in my pals Coupe with the same springs, shocks and tires. My tire pressure is low, to compensate and it still doesn't help. Higher pressures are murder. Any suspension stiffening devices, such as spacers, solid tension rods, front strut supports, are murder as well.

I've driven S2000s and while they are harsh, the chassis is amazingly stiff, and feels like any solid coupe. Same goes for the C5 Vette convertible. It's a modern technology thing. C4 vette verts are shaky as well as our Z verts, so are E36 BMW verts. The older convertibles just can't compare to the modern designs.

In response to that, I bought the stiffest, lightest (probably quietest) Z made, and will get it running and compare them.

I can only keep one. Sounds like what I really need is both, so I won't pick on the vert so much, because otherwise it's nice-looking and comfortable enough for recreation. And fairly rare.

dang.
